| Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has succeeded in getting 4032 NABARD funded projects worth Rs. 2289.03 crore sanctioned under (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund) RIDF upto 1st June, 2009 along with 240 additional projects posed worth Rs. 691.93 crore for more funding. Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, announced while presiding over the review meeting of the Planning, Economic and Statistic Department, here on Monday.
He said that NABARD had been among the major funding agencies for carrying speedy infrastructure building activities in the State. He added that the fund had been spent over construction of 1,504 minor irrigation and water shed development projects, 805 road and bridges projects, construction of 1,213 primary school rooms, 64 science laboratories in senior secondary schools, and construction of 366 water supply schemes.
Chief Minister said that the State Government had expeditiously completed its part of obligations required to complete the ongoing Nangal-Talwara Broad Gauge Railway Line Project as land acquisition process of Amb Andora to Daulatpur Chowk section had already been initiated. Dhumal also went on to add that the State would be bearing the 25 percent of the Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri Broad Gauge Railway Line project cost while 75 percent being borne by the Union Government.
Chief Minister assured that land acquisition work on Himachal portion had already been initiated. He said that Chandigarh-Baddi Broad Gauge Railway Line project was likely to be connected from Ghanauli to Baddi after feasibility survey by Railway authorities.
Dhumal accepted the fact that Himachal Pradesh had been deprived of its legitimate share in railway expansion since independence and the only one Nangal-Talwara project was also getting delayed due to the paucity of adequate budgetary provisions. He said that the State Government had raised the matter at all fronts and with the new government at the centre, the project was likely to get priority.
Chief Minister said that the State had earmarked 25 percent of its budgetary provisions under Scheduled Caste Component Plan, 9 percent under Tribal Sub-Plan and separate provisions under Backward Area Sub Plan to carry focussed development of the targetted sections and areas all over the State. He said that Agriculture and Horticulture sectors had been accorded top priority which had vast potential for generating self-employment for the rural youth. He said that added attention was being paid towards acceleration of developmental activities at the gram panchayat level by decentralisation of the powers and providing adequate funds for such activities.
He emphasised the need for more budgetary provisions to carry social welfare activities aimed at speedy socio-economic upliftment of the weaker sections of the society. Moreover, he directed the authorities to ensure that every penny of the public money was utilised for the bonafide purposes and misutilistion in any manner viewed seriously. He also directed them to achieve all the targets fixed under 20-Point Programme. |
