New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change is scheduled to meet here on Aug 3, a member of the council said here today. The council is meeting after more than 13 months.

The high-powered council is expected to discuss at least two of the missions announced in India's National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) last year, according to officials in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The missions are on boosting solar energy development and energy efficiency.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to chair the meeting, the officials added. The council had last met before the prime minister unveiled the NAPCC on June 30 last year.

India has been facing criticism for not starting work on the eight missions announced by the NAPCC. Environment ministry officials said detailed action plans under the two missions had just been drafted. They attributed the delay to the general elections this April-May. (IANS)
