New Delhi: Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), President Pratibha Patil today hoped the state refiner would continue to expand production to increase the country's energy security.

"As Indian Oil owns and operates 10 of India's 20 refineries, accounting for 34 percent of the national refining capacity, I am sure that the nation can count on its contribution in increasing production," Patil said in her address at a function here.

She said it was time for an "energy revolution" in line with previous white revolution and green revolution.

"It is time now for an Energy Revolution that will ensure our energy security, and reliably meet the demand for energy services of all its sectors and people," she said.

Patil said it had to be examined what could be the most efficient product energy mix - "and in the national energy grid, conventional and non-conventional forms of energy can complement each other".

The president also released a commemorative stamp at the function, which was attended by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora and Communications and IT Minister A. Raja.

Deora said that the company, with a record turnover of $61 billion and a workforce of 33,000, had a pride of place among public sector undertakings. (IANS)
