| New Delhi: Provident fund deposits to the tune of Rs.3,837.7 crore (Rs.38.4 billion) are lying in the inoperative accounts of members or their heirs, the government said today.
"These are payable at any time when the claims are received, the same cannot be utilised for any other purpose. There is no scheme or plan for utilising this money," Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat told Parliament today.
These are the figures as on March 31.
Rawat said officials of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) have been asked to scrutinise the claims of inoperative accounts and release the money to genuine claimants. (IANS) |
