| Bangalore: Amidst the controversy regarding reservation for Other Backward Castes in the Women's Reservation Bill, the Union law Minister has come out with an affirming response ruling out providing such reservation.
Claiming that the data on OBCs is not available at the national level, the Minister added that there will be no change in the bill compared to that passed in the Rajya Sabha. Moily further added that the bill will be passed through the Lok Sabha in April.
While addressing the reporters, Moily asserted that there is no provision in the Constitution to provide for OBC reservation, especially for political reservation. However, reservation is provided in the sector of employment and education.
He went on to affirm that Indian government has not conducted census since 1931 and unless these data are available, it is not possible to identify the number of OBC in the country. |
