| Mumbai: With increasing cases of wives misusing their ex-husbands' name troubling the community of divorced men Bombay High Court has passed a rare directive prohibiting divorced woman from using her former husband's name. The directive also orders them not to use even their former husbands' surname.
Giving a verdict in a case, which will relieve many divorced men, the high court made it clear that ex-wife does not have nay right to use her husband's name anywhere, and that includes her bank account.
Justice Roshan Dalvi passed this rather rare judgment.
Earlier, R R Vachha, principal judge of the family court in Mumbai, had asked a woman to restrain from using her ex-husband's name and surname. According to Vachha, people may be misled if a woman continues to use the ex-husband's name or surname even after her divorce.
The battle over names has been quite an old one with the recent case registered back in February 2006 when a divorced wife moved Supreme Court and claimed that she was still his wife. |
