| New Delhi, Jun 16: Indian government has arrived at a consensus to amend the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act as a first step towards eliminating discrimination against children suffering from communicable diseases.
Government will soon push forward its demand to amend an act providing for the protection of minors.
The draft bill demands strict prohibition on sending juvenile population to asylums and practice discrimination in their treatment. It has been a common malice in the country to seclude the minors and provide separate treatment for those suffering from diseases like leprosy and tuberculosis.
As per the amendment, the authorities will now have to ensure that the minors get proper treatment and are not sent to asylums. The provisions of the new draft bill also state that term "mental disorder" must not be used when we refer to children. |
