| New Delhi: The Indo-Pak Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism (JATM) is likely to meet in New Delhi in the third week of this month when the Indian side is expected to raise the issue of Kabul Embassy attack and give evidence linking ISI to the incident. India is expected to ask Pakistan about the details of a probe that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had promised to hold to ascertain whether the ISI had any role in the July 7 incident.
Gilani had given the assurance to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when they met in Colombo on the sidelines of the SAARC Summit in August during which the latter conveyed India's concerns over the incident. New Delhi, as also Washington, have asserted that there was clinching evidence to prove that ISI was behind the suicide attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul in which a Brigadier-rank Defence Attache and a senior IFS officer were among four Indians killed.
The incident had caused anger in India and put a strain on the peace process. India, which has maintained that an atmosphere free of violence was a must for the dialogue process, would be seeking concrete cooperation from Pakistan in tackling terrorism emanating from that country.
At the JATM meeting, the Indian side will be led by Vivek Katju, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Pakistani delegation will be headed by Aizaz Ahmed Choudhry, Additional Secretary in Foreign Ministry. The exact dates are being worked out. (PTI) |
