Tokyo: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said both Japan and India have been developing into a strategic partnership and the two major powers are ready to play a commensurate global role.
Stressing the transformation of India-Japan relations at a reception hosted in the Japanese capital by the Japan-India Association and the Japan India Parliamentary Friendship League, Manmohan said, "India believes that a strong and dynamic Japan is a factor of peace and stability in Asia and the world."
Expressing Japan's developmental assistance for India's industrial modernisation, Singh said he looked forward to the next of the relationship to expand on trade flows, technology and investment.
Commending the contribution of the Indian community in Japan, Singh said their achievements had made India proud, and urged them to redouble their efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Singh wraps up his three-day visit to Tokyo on Thursday and will travel to Beijing later in the day for the seventh ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) summit, where India will be participating for the first time after being inducted along with Mongolia and Pakistan into the Asia-Europe grouping. This will also be the first multilateral meeting that Manmohan Singh will be attending after the inking of India's historic nuclear pacts with the US and France.(IANS) |
