New Delhi: Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh today said the government will establish e-waste treatment facilities in the country.

"It is for the first time we are including e-waste recycling facilities as part of hazardous waste management programme for 140 highly contaminated sites in the country," Ramesh told reporters here.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Friday cleared Rs.3.5 billion project to clean up hazardous waste/municipal solid waste dump sites in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal on pilot basis.

Ramesh said India generates around 6.2 million tonnes of hazardous waste annually, of which roughly 3.5 million tonnes is recyclable.(IANS)
