HeadlinesIndia introduced HiFlyers Awards for the first time on Twitter on 18th December, 2009. Twitter users were invited to vote for the Best Indians of the year 2009. The twelve different categories included generic ones such as Best Indian Actor, Best Indian Actress, and Best Indian Cricketer and also the special category of Best Indian Twitterer of the Year (BITY).

BITY has proved to be most exciting category, with large number of Twitter users nominating their friends for the award. Not so surprisingly, this special category- BITY, is not being led by any of the popular Indian celebrities.

At HiFlyers Awards 2009, Twitterers can vote for their favourite Indian Twitter Celebrity and also nominate the Best Indian Twitterer of the Year. This gives a chance to all Indian users of Twitter to prove that they are as popular as the celebrities on Twitter.

Among various general categories, Priyanka Chopra, Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Tendulkar, Chetan Bhagat, Shashi Tharoor, and Shahid Kapoor seem to be quite popular. The results for the Best Indian Twitterer of the Year 2009 is quite a revelation. However, at this moment, HeadlinesIndia would not like to reveal the name of the person leading this special category.

The HiFlyers 2009 Awards has generated an amazing response so far, with more than 4,000 votes cast in less than 48 hours. A race is on to choose the best Indians of the year. With more than a week to go before the voting closes on 31st December, 2009, excitement quotient continues to remain high among the voters.
