| For the first time on Twitter HeadlinesIndia introduced the Hiflyers Awards 2009,inviting the Twitterers to vote for the best Indian Twitter celebrity, author, film, actor and entrepreneur of the year. The Hiflyers Awards received an overwhelming response from the Twitter fraternity with the interest on the Best Indian Twitterer shooting up from the very first day. The final result uncovered a surprising fact that it is not the celebrities who are popular on twitter but the popularity index of the non-celebs is even quite high and sometimes even better.
Leaving the Bollywood bigwigs like Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra on the second and third position, chetan (@cheth) emerged as the Best Indian Twitterer after he received 106 votes. Other non-celebs like @zeqox, @ nishtha__, and @KhushiKiDuniya found their places in the list of top 15 Indian twitterers. While singer Shreya Ghoshal is voted the 6th popular Twitterer, Abhishek Bachchan and Shashi Tharoor follow her in 7th and 8th position respectively. Bollywood actress Gul Panag and a renowned media personality Pritish Nandy stand at 10th and 11th position leaving behind the popular singer Jay Sean in the 13th place.

In the Best Indian Actor category, Shahid Kapoor emerged peerless for his performance in the film Kaminey. He surpassed the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan by quite a good margin. Priyanka Chopra is voted the Best Indian Actress of the year giving no grounds to other nominees like Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor.
Famed director Vishal Bhardwaj edged past another noted filmmaker Anurag Kashyap by a good 14 % leaving no scope for other directors to challenge him the top position. When it comes to select the Best Indian Music Director, the tweeple seem to have put all their faith on Oscar Winning music director A.R Rahman. He has got a whooping 67% votes with the other nominees together getting 33 % votes. Singer Shreya Ghoshal cemented her place on top position as she received the majority of votes. Soulful singer Mohit Chauhan is in the second spot with 19% votes.
Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar secured the first position almost uncontested as present Indian Cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni s left behind in the second place with mere 16% votes. In the Best Indian Sportsperson category, the nominees seemed to be no match for the rising Badminton star of India Saina Nehwal. She went ahead of her closest competitor Vijender Kumar by a considerable margin.
Proving once again the reach of its brand identity, Tata was voted the Best Indian Company 2009. Nokia India gave a good fight but in the end it had to remain in the second spot. When it comes to choose the Best Indian Entrepreneur, Ratan Tata (Chairman of the Tata Group), outdid Mukesh D Ambani, (chairman, managing director of Reliance Industries) by a heavy margin to secure the1st place.

After a close contest among the popular store chains, Big Bazaar is voted by the Twitterers as the Best Indian Store. Westside and Shopper's Stop were not much behind.
