Bhubaneswar: After his party's tremendous showing at the polls, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) head and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today that he would not support either a United Progressive Alliance or a National Democratic Alliance government at the centre.

"We will not support a Congress-led UPA or BJP-led NDA government at the centre. However, the BJD will review the situation again after the final results are out," Patnaik told reporters as counting for the state's 21 Lok Sabha and 147 assembly seats indicated a massive victory for his party.

Asked if his party would be part of the Manmohan Singh cabinet, he said: "No, I am afraid we would not be doing that."

Asked what would be the BJD's demands from the government at the centre, he said: "We will have our own demands - the just demands of the people of Orissa that we will put forward at the centre. But I repeat, we will not support Congress-led UPA or BJP-led NDA government."

Expressing his satisfaction over the mandate to his party, Patnaik said he will work much harder and maintain peace, harmony and work for the overall progress of the state.

Describing the BJD as a regional party, Patnaik said the centre has neglected Orissa in the past and his party will see that the central government fulfills the demand of the state.

The BJD has won the Mahanga and Hindol assembly seats, and the BJP the Sambhalpur seat, according to results declared by afternoon.

BJD candidates were leading in 101 assembly constituencies. The Congress and the BJP were ahead in 30 and 10 respectively.

Similarly, the BJD was also leading in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies, while the Congress was leading in six and the Communist Party of India in one.(IANS)
