Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, who is heading for victory in the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, said today that he would be "happy" to take up any role in the UPA government.

"I will be happy to play whatever role the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government wants me to play," Abdullah told a news channel.

"I am glad that the UPA has done very well. Whatever role they want me to play I will play. I will not shy away from anything," he said.

On the election results he said: "All the exit poll results have been proved wrong and it has been proved that the people want a secular government."

"The people have finally come out of their old shells and have proved that they want a future as bright as it can be," he added.

Abdullah is leading in the Srinagar seat over his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival Moulvi Ifftekhar Ansari, by more than 32,000 votes.(IANS)
