| Jammu: India can now be said to be developing both industrially and also in educational fields. A group of farmers in Jammu who are above 60 years of age are now attending school regularly to fulfill their dream of studying, since they missed that opportunity when they were younger.
Around 45 farmers residing in the village of Jhinder Mailu close to Jammu have understood that it is the high time for them to complete their primary education as they were unable to do so decades ago for the sake of running their families.
Bailu Ram, who spend all his life in farming in his field is now of 90 years of age and is one of the students of this school. He said that he is now living his dream as he got the chance of learning here.
This special school commenced 3 years ago by a local NGO called Dehaat Sewa Sanstha in this village with an aim to enable the aged people to learn the basics of education. Few of the elderly students find it difficult to study because of health troubles and their over age, but still they have not turned down their urge for learning.
The farmers get delighted when they can spell their names correctly or can even put their signatures. Few of the farmers feel shy to practice their lessons in front of their grandchildren, but it is undeniably a great experience for them. The incident proves that education doesn't depend on any particular age. |
