| New Delhi: Finally IIM got its official approval from the government to open its campuses in foreign countries. As per the government's notice, the directors and the board of members of IIMs will be recruited by a separate panel of academicians and industrialists.
The appointment process is being conducted presently by Ministry for Human Resource Development. Advertisements are given in national newspapers by the government for these positions, and the candidates who reply to these ads are selected on the basis of suitable qualifications.
On Oct 15, 2009, Kapil Sibal, the Human Resource Development Minister convened with the IIM directors to discuss on these matters. Since the past few months, both the IITs and IIMs are requesting the government for availing more autonomy. Ultimately IIM was successful in getting the approval for opening their campuses abroad.
IIM is now on process of further planning about setting up its campuses abroad. The government will convene with the representatives of IIM in January 2010 in order to discuss about the execution of these plans. |
