20,000 classrooms in Kerala to be IT-enabled

Thiruvananthapuram: Nearly 20,000 classrooms in over 2,000 schools in Kerala will now have computers and multimedia projectors to enable learning through information technology (IT), an official said today.

"The classrooms needs electrification so as to make use of the laptops and multimedia projectors to teach all subjects using IT in the classrooms," said K. Anvar Sadath, executive director of IT@School Project.

All government high schools, higher secondary schools and vocational higher secondary schools of the state government will expedite the use of IT equipments in classrooms also, in addition to existing computer labs, he said.

The schools would be provided up to Rs.15,000 each for the electrification and for fixing necessary power sockets for operating computers, projectors, fans and lights.

"The implementation of broadband internet connectivity in high schools has been completed. In higher secondary and vocational higher secondary sections, the directors have issued directives to take separate telephone connections for availing broadband connectivity," Sadath said.

Currently 20,000 teachers in various subjects have been given training in IT enabled education by IT@School Project. (IANS)
