Two premier scientific institutes being built in Bhopal

Bhopal: Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh on Wednesday stressed on more scientific research and development in India and said that the central government had earmarked Rs 840 billion in the 11th Five Year Plan for the development of human resource.

Singh was in Bhopal to attend the foundation laying ceremony for two premier scientific institutes - Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) - at Bhounri village near here. The two institutes are being set up at a cost of more than Rs 5 billion.

The minister said that students were being motivated to carry out more research activities in science and teachers should come forward to encourage it. Stressing upon the need for women's education in the state, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that his government has introduced 'Gaon ki Beti' (daughter of the village) scheme under which annual stipend of Rs 5,000 was given to those girls who scored more than 60 per cent marks in their examinations.
