Educational Loans worth Rs 40,000 cr disbursed in last fiscal: Chidambaram |

| Chennai, April 19:: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram asserted that around Rs 40,000 crore were paid out in the 2009-2010 fiscal to support the educational expenses of thousands of meritorious students all over India. Especially, students who belong to the backward communities of the society like the Dalits have been largely benefited through the availability of such loans.
He also stressed on the fact that such a huge amount of money was not spend earlier as educational leans by any government. However, the net amount of disbursement for educational loans is yet to be announced this year.
Chidambaram said that Dalit students and those who are from poor families didn't sufficient get opportunities to pursue higher education. Even if they manage to get admitted in good colleges and universities, they face financial problems. The availability of educational loans at affordable interest rates has enabled many of these students to fulfill their dreams. |
