New Delhi: The MCD on Wednesday passed a resolution seeking a blanket one-year ban on sealing and demolition in the capital and for implementing a general amnesty scheme to benefit traders who would be affected by the court-ordered drive. The resolution was passed in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the MCD. "The Centre is bringing a special bill in the Lok Sabha on the basis of Master Plan of Delhi 2021 hence a clear cut policy should be formulated for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers, vendors and hawkers," MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya said.
Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the bill should include provision of regularisation of about 1,500 colonies, permission for commercial activities in residential colonies which existed before 1962 and permission of commercial activities on non-notified roads.
The BJP councillors also decided to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar on Thursday demanding blanket ban on sealing demolition in the capital. )PTI)
