| Attari (Amritsar), July 22: Certainly a proud moment for the women personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) as they became the integral part of history. For the first time in more than forty years, women personnel have been inducted directly to the routine Beating Retreat Ceremony at Wagah on the India-Pakistan border.
These personnel have become a part of the Ceremony. Last year BSF appointed women constables to perform duty on the International Border but they were not allowed to be directly associated the ceremony. Unlike in the last year, the role of these women personnel is not limited to routine patrolling and managing crowds.
While announcing this decision, BSF DIG Mohammad Aquil asserted that women constables for the first time in the history were inducted into the frontier force. He further added that this has been done on an experimental basis.
Aquil made it clear that the women personnel will be closely watched for few days and since it is a difficult job, they will be allowed to continue with this job only if they feel comfortable and don't get injured. |
