Two held for supplying fake Rs.10 coins

| New Delhi, Aug 10: Two youths suspected to be linked to a Nepal-based gang were arrested today from south Delhi for supplying counterfeit Indian currency coins to food joints, police said.
Sudhir Kumar, 36, a Delhi resident, and Daleep Kumar, 29, who hails from Bihar, were arrested from Meher Chand market in Lodhi Colony.
According to police, around 41,600 counterfeit coins with a face value of Rs.10 were recovered from the duo.
"The gang minted counterfeit coins in Nepal and circulated them here through big food joints in Delhi, Gurgaon and other metropolitan cities of the country," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said at a press conference.
The gang used a car with a police sticker to travel and sell the counterfeit coins in Delhi.
"This counterfeit currency was smuggled to India through a border point near East Champaran and loaded on trucks that transport vegetables and fruits. Sometimes, the counterfeit coins were brought on the Sampark Kranti Express," Dhaliwal added.
The duo was living in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar area, he said. (IANS) |
