| Shillong: Bangladesh is now producing razor blades out of Indian five rupee coins which are being smuggled in the country. The Reserve Bank of India has thus decided to replace the alloy content that is used to make these coins so as to counter this illegal activity.
H R Khan, the Chief Director of RBI has informed the press that the smuggling of Indian coins into Bangladesh for making blades is being practiced since months. He assured that RBI is inspecting the matter closely.
Police said that from a single Rs. 5 coin, around 6 razor blades can be produced. Each blade is sold for Rs. 2 in the market. Khan said that RBI has already started preparing five rupee coins using cupronickel. The new alloy content will not be profitable for melting. |
