Navi Mumbai, June 25: A teacher was arrested here today for allegedly raping a Class 3 student in a school toilet, police said today.

"We have arrested 32-year-old Firoze Ibrahim on suspicion of rape. We are yet to ascertain whether he committed the crime or not. He is in police custody till June 29 and our investigations are on," said Inspector Sanjay Shukla.

The seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Monday at St. Joseph School and Junior College in Kalamboli suburb of Navi Mumbai. The victim was allegedly raped in a bathroom on the fourth floor of the school by the accused.

The police complaint was lodged on Wednesday. Parents demonstrated before the school the whole day on Thursday demanding action against the guilty teacher.

According to school sources, Ibrahim has been teaching biology to junior college students for the past six years and has a clean image. He was described by sources as a serious teacher.

"He hardly came to the primary section," said a school official requesting anonymity.

Police officer Shukla said: "The teacher is claiming to be not guilty. He says the area where the alleged crime took place is crowded and it is impossible not to attract attention there." (IANS)
