New Delhi: The central government in close coordination with states has intensified measures against human trafficking and crime against women, Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken said today.

"The home ministry along with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), would be organising a workshop for training of trainers of all stakeholders against human trafficking by the end of this year," he said in a statement.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram will inaugurate the workshop. The ministry intends to organise similar workshops for stakeholders from the SAARC countries in line with India's offer of conducting training programmes for capacity building for implementation of the SAARC convention on preventing and combating trafficking in women and children.

The ministry convened a meeting of the nodal officers tackling human trafficking in various states Aug 28 and pushed forward the agenda of coordinated and intensive efforts against trafficking, Maken noted.(IANS)
