CBI books 35 corrupt officers in September

New Delhi: In September alone, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) booked 35 corrupt officers for demanding and accepting bribe from public. The agency conducted a special drive and registered 127 cases. The cases registered for offences under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, Wild Life Protection Act 1972, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act 1956, Information Technology Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC) including Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN), Bank Frauds and Cyber Crimes.

The officials caught red handed include an Assistant Superintendent of Post Office, Senior Manager, National Insurance Company, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Branch Manager, Union Bank of India, Field Officer, State Bank of India, Medical Officer, Senior Medical Superintendent of Railway Hospital, Deputy Station Superintendent, Central Railways, Senior Deputy Electrical Engineer, Southern Railways, Inspector of Income Tax, Executive Engineer of Income Tax Valuation Cell, Inspector of ESIC, Divisional Engineer of BSNL, Chief Manager, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. and Office Superintendent of a Major Port Trust.

Eleven cases for possession of disproportionate assets and criminal misconduct were registered during the month. Besides that a case involving scam of Rs 32 crores at Mumbai and 6 officers of Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi and Fair Price Shop dealers in Delhi on the allegations of preparation of bogus ration cards and diversion of ration meant for poor.

The officials of Regional Passport Office for their alleged involvement in preparation of duplicate passport suppressing the vital information and 18 cases against bank officials and private persons for bank frauds was registered. For offences of fake Indian currency notes 8 cases and one case for offences under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act 1956 on the allegation of illicit trafficking of minor girls was registered.
