Over Rs.7 crore paid to Mangalore crash victims' kin |

| Mumbai, June 4: Air India has, till today, disbursed Rs.7.56 crore to 84 families as part of the interim relief to survivors and relatives of victims of the Air India Express IX-812 crash in Mangalore on May 22, an airline official said.
"Over the last two days, an amount of Rs.57 lakh was disbursed to 28 families of the victims and two survivors each, being the relief announced by the central government out of the Prime Minister's Relief Fund," an Air India spokesperson said.
The government had announced a payment, from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, of Rs.2 lakh for the family of a deceased and Rs.50,000 for a survivor.
"This amount will also be paid to those who have claimed Air India's interim relief on May 28 and 29," added the spokesperson.
Air India's team of senior officials had earlier visited Mangalore last week to assist the survivors and the relatives of the victims in their claim for compensation.
"So far, Air India has arranged disbursement of interim compensation of Rs.4.82 crore to 54 families May 28 and 29. This included one of the eight survivors. On June 3, interim compensation of Rs.1.82 crore was disbursed to 20 families, including a survivor. Today, interim compensation of Rs.92 lakh was disbursed to 10 families, including one survivor," said the spokesperson.
Earlier, Air India had announced an interim compensation of Rs.10 lakh for the family members of a deceased adult (of above 12 years of age), Rs.5 lakh for a child (below 12 years of age) and Rs.2 lakh to a survivor.
A total of 158 people were killed when the IX-812 coming from Dubai overshot the runway at the Mangalore airport and fell off a cliff on May 22. (IANS) |
