Kolkata: Mobile handset distributor LAVA International Limited is gearing up to tap the rural market, a top company official said here today.

"There is a vacuum of 60-65 percent in the rural market that we want to capitalise on. There is no proper dealer and distributor network and it is there that we are investing our resources to see an equitable and affordable distribution of the handsets in these areas," Sunil Bhalla, director, LAVA said while addressing a press meet.

After launching its product here today, Bhalla said: "At present we have 20 distributors in the state (West Bengal). Within three to four months we will take it up to 50-60 distributors to reach remote places in the state."

The company with its mid-range products is targeting upcountry regions, he said.

It has already launched its products in north India last month and is planning to unveil these in southern parts of the country soon. (IANS)
