| Kolkata: Recently an old acquaintance asked me what I am doing these days. When I said I am planning to start my own business, her reaction was of surprise and dismissal. So, instead of pursuit of wonderful things like academic excellence or knowledge, or even social work, I am running behind money these days. Alright! Now, this was in complete contrast with what I think of my goals and my work. It would have taken a lot of effort and time to explain to her the dreams, the sweat, the planning and knowledge that go into a successful start-up. Instead, I invited her to Startup Saturday, January edition.
Would you like to see what is going to be the driving force of Indian innovation in the next decade? Do you want to meet some men and women with dreams and ideas, young and veterans alike, who dared to find their own ways instead of walking down the beaten tracks, and have set industry trends all the way? Are you one of these people I am talking about, or raring to join their league? Do you ever feel thrilled by the greatness and potential of an original idea? Are you a service provider looking for new markets? If answer to any of these questions will be yes, you missed something on 12th of December.
The December edition of Startup Saturday Kolkata, where a bunch of bright young entrepreneurs met at Globsyn Business School, listened to industry veterans who explained their experience in the world of startups, and tried to sell their own ideas or ventures to the crowd present in '5 minute lightning pitches', was a great success by any measure.
The first featured speaker was Mr. Udai Singh of eRevMax, a software development company for the hotel industry. Udai told us how his company saw a gap in the Hotel booking industry and changed it forever with use of technology by creating a unique Revenue Management System, viz. RateTiger. As a result of his persuasions, everyone in the room ended up debating what makes a great startup company, and ended up concluding that it is not merely hard work, capital, knowledge or opportunity that make a great start-up, but there is a certain 'x-factor' about startups that sometimes goes on to make brightest stars like Facebook or Alibaba.com. There was a lot to learn from Udai's presentation.
The 2nd speaker of the day was Mr. Arnab Ray from Array Consultancy Services, a niche management consulting firm specializing in startup strategies. Arnab and his team work with entrepreneurs in a collaborative model to plan streamline and strategize their venture. In Arnab's words, "It is imperative to plan and foresee your business goals before starting to work towards it."
Arnab was visibly very happy to see an initiative like Startup Saturday in Kolkata and to meet so many like mined budding entrepreneurs.
"Startup Saturday is a great initiative to nurture the concept of entrepreneurship across the country. A great platform to learn, discuss and network for any budding entrepreneurs. The event in Kolkata has a definitive significance. This part of the country needs a lot of attention towards entrepreneurship which ideally has been lacking compared to the rest of the country.", said Arnab.
Have you missed this month's SS? Don't make that mistake again, register with us for the January edition right now so that we can send you a reminder when 9th of January approaches.
The January edition of Startup Saturday will be a further step towards sharing ideas and making the bonding stronger. This time Business Opportunities in the Law & Legal domain is chosen as the topic of discussion on which Mr. Kian Ganz, the Publishing Editor at LegallyIndia.com will share his valuable opinion and be a part of the online discussion.
He will be followed by Mr. Rohit Das, the Managing Partner at Rohit Das & Associates. Mr Das is likely to focus on diverse areas of corporate and commercial laws. Mr. Avik Sarkar, Founder of Rtizen, will also grace the event with his presence. He will also deliver his useful inputs to steer the event to a conclusive end.
