Mumbai: India's exports were $14.6 billion (Rs.73,000 crore) in December, up from $13.2 billion (Rs.66,000 crore) the month before, union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma said today.

"We have just got the December figures, they are positive, again there is growth," Sharma said at a Bankers summit.

"But we cannot be complacent. It is against a low base. We have to look at the broader scenario," he pointed out.

The minister further stated that the government would spend $1.5 trillion (Rs.1.5 lakh crore) on infrastructure over the next 10 years.

India's exports rose 18.2 percent in November to $13.2 billion (Rs.66,000 crore), the first rise after 13 straight months of decline.

Sharma late last week met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to push for stimulus for the exporters in the annual budget.

The commerce and industry ministry is expected to unveil its stimulus package soon to selected export sectors which have been suffering due to the global economic slowdown.

The official trade data for December is expected to be released on Feb 1. (IANS)
