Sensex moves up 93 points by early afternoon

| Mumbai: A benchmark index for Indian equities was 93 points higher than its last close by early afternoon today, after a listless morning session.
At 12.43 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,042.18 points, was at 16,131.53 points, up 93.18 points or 0.58 percent from its previous close.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was at 4,825 points, against the previous close at 4,801.95 points, a gain of 0.48 percent or 23.05 points.
Broader market indices were flat.
Healthcare, capital goods, and metals stocks found favour with buyers.
The market breadth was positive, with 1,327 stocks advancing, 1,310 on the decline and 94 remaining unchanged.
Most other Asian markets were also in the green.
The benchmark Japanese index, Nikkei, closed 0.21 percent higher at 10,034.25 points, while the South Korean Kospi was trading 0.46 percent higher at 1,601.05.
Chinese and Hong Kong exchanges were closed on account of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday. (IANS) |
