Kolkata, June 7: The West Bengal government has roped in private company Deccan Charter to operate flights on the Kolkata-Cooch Behar route, state Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu said today.

"As per the deal, the government will ensure reservation of eight seats in the 24-seater aircraft. One-way fare will be Rs.5,000," the minister said.

In case the private company gets more than 16 reservations, the government reservation will be reduced accordingly.

Though the minister said the number of flights per week and the date of commencement of the service are yet to be decided, state secretariate sources said the service would start from July 15.

The state government was earlier in talks with another private company, Northeast Shuttle, to operate flights on the route but it backed out. (IANS)
