New Delhi, April 21: Air India and Jet Airways prepared to fly to Europe after Heathrow airport in London opened to air traffic at 2 a.m. (IST) today.

The airlines have not been flying to Europe since April 15 after an ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano spread to Europe and disrupted traffic.

Officials of Air India and Jet Airways said they would resume flights to Europe once they get the permission from the authorities.

"We may, however, review if there is a case of further volcanic eruption. We have been told that there could be more eruptions in Iceland," said an Air India official.

Air India and Jet Airways began operating to the U.S. and Canada via Cairo and Athens from Tuesday.

Lufthansa and Air France also on Tuesday operated flights to Munich and Paris after remaining stranded in Indian airports for six days. (IANS)
