Mumbai, May 18: The national flag carrier Air India (AI) set a new personal record by carrying 50,308 passengers on its entire domestic and international network on Sunday, an official said here today.

While a total of 32,456 passengers flew on the IC-coded flights, another 17,852 flew on the international network comprising the Air India and Air India Express flights.

This is the maximum number of passengers AI has carried post-merger of Air India-Indian Airlines in August 2007, the spokesperson said.

The news came close on the heels of the good passenger traffic notched by the carrier in April and May. In the current month, AI reported a 17 percent growth in passenger carriage as compared to the same month last year.

With the upswing in passenger carriage in April this year, AI's domestic market share has risen to 18.20 percent, bringing it on par with other full service carriers in this segment.

Similarly, on the international sectors, Air India and Air India Express together account for 24.1 percent of the market share, the spokesperson said. (IANS)
