Air India salary cut: Cabinet to take a decision soon

New Delhi, Aug 23: The Civil Aviation Ministry is soon expected to ask for the approval of the Union Cabinet regarding the management of Air India, the national carrier. In the recent times Air India has been facing some teething problems.

The Civil Aviation Ministry is supposed to continue negotiating with the various Air India trade unions regarding salaries of the workers. The wage bill instituted by the National Civil Aviation Company Ltd. or NACIL is at the center of the entire affair.

NACIL has almost 31,000 employees, which is much more than what should be ideal for an enterprise of that size. It has also seen several problems with regarding to reducing its workforce.

Air India has also faced problems with reduction of salaries of their employees as there have been political problems whenever such a step has been taken. The unions have also threatened to strike work on such occasions.

The Civil Aviation Ministry thinks if they are supported by the government they would be able to bring about a correction in the salaries in a proper way.
