| New Delhi, July 5: Delhi Police today denied permission to Team Anna to hold an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar here from July 25, citing parliament's monsoon session, during which others also will have to be accommodated for protest.
"We cannot accommodate only Team Anna for their protest at Jantar Mantar. They had asked permission for fast from July 25 till Aug 8, which we cannot give as others will also seek permission to protest as monsoon session will be in progress," said Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat.
Team Anna, which had announced that it would hold a protest against the failure of government to enact Jan Lokpal bill, said it would be launching public meetings across the capital from Friday.
"As part of preparations for July 25th event, several public meetings are being organised in the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region), especially in the rural parts, starting from July 6 (Friday)," said a statement by Team Anna.
"These rallies would be addressed by Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Kiran Bedi, Kumar Vishwas, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai," it added.
A Team Anna official added that the activists were discussing the matter and contemplating their next move.(IANS) |
