| Raipur, July 12: Nearly 40 armed Maoists including some women, opened fire at a mining facility of India's largest iron ore miner, NMDC Ltd, tonight in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said.
Maoists set ablaze a vehicle at Akash Nagar area on a hilltop at Bacheli mining facility of the NMDC. The Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) personnel fired in retaliation, a local police official told the media over phone.
The official said no casualty or injury was reported. The gunbattle site is located some 420 km south of capital Raipur.
Maoists raided a NMDC explosive depot in February 2006 at Kirandul, an adjoining town of Bacheli, and walked away with some 20 tonnes of explosives after killing eight CISF men. (IANS) |
