| Colombo: The Sri Lankan Police said on Thursday that they captured three propagandists of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Eastern Province.
The LTTE supporters were nabbed at Serunuwara in the eastern port district of Trincomalee on Thursday when they were distributing propaganda materials, the police said.
The Sri Lankan Army has defeated the LTTE after a long battle with the rebels who staged more than two decades of struggle for a separate homeland for the minority Tamils in the north and east of the country, claiming discrimination at the hands of the Sinhalese dominated governments.
The government has ruled out that the rebels may regroup as their military capability has been completely destroyed in May this year.
More than 100,000 people have been killed since the conflict started in the island nation in mid-1980s. (IANS) |
