Three security men shot dead in Sopore

Srinagar, Aug 11: A police constable and two special police officers (SPOs) were shot dead by separatist guerrillas in north Kashmir's Sopore town late on Tuesday, police said.

A senior police officer said here that separatist guerrillas attacked the guards at the residence of mainstream Nationalist Political Party (NPP) leader Muhammad Abdullah Dar in Warpora area of Sopore town in the evening.

"Militants attacked the guards at the Arampora residence of NPP leader Muhammad Abdullah Dar in Sopore town late today evening with automatic rifles. A police constable and two special police officers (SPOs) posted as guards at Dar's residence have been killed in this attack," the officer said.

Additional deployment of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off.

"Searches are being carried out to trace the militants, but no arrest has been made so far," the officer said.

No guerrilla group has yet owned responsibility for the attack. (IANS)
