Medications for babies form an important part of keeping the baby healthy. Taking proper care by giving proper medication at proper time helps in proper growth of the baby and keeping any kind of disease at bay. Babies need proper medication because of the fact that they are more sensitive to the surrounding and the environment than the adults. Proper medication helps the baby to cope with the virus and infection that they are often prone to. Some medicines also help the babies to grow and keep them healthy.
Intake of medicines
Babies should be given drugs only as prescribed. Over the counter medication should be strictly avoided. Over the counter medication can lead to some side-effects which can harm the baby in a more adverse way. No matter how minimal the problem is, the child should be taken to the doctor and should be given only prescribed medicines.
When a child is being given his course of medicine, the parents should carefully read the label on the medicine and do as per the direction given for the intake of the medicine. Right dose as per the age and the weight of the baby are among the important factors which should be taken care of. Some medicines can be mixed with the food of the baby and can be given, but in case of certain other medicines the medicine has to be given directly. Some medicines are required to be taken empty stomach whereas other medicines effects well if taken after having food. These things should be noted well and in case of any confusion, the parents should contact the physician concerned. While the baby is under medication, the parents should ask the physician about how many times is the child suppose to have the medicine, at what time of the day and many other very common but important questions.
The doctor should also be intimidated on the fact if the baby has some kind of allergies before any medication for the babies are suggested. Parents should also take proper care of the child and should take certain precaution in diet and other routines if the effect of the medication tends to have an adverse reaction.

The medicines for the babies should also be stored as per the direction on the label and mostly in cool and dry place.
